Jonathon Hidalgo, Psychology Intern
Hello! My name is Jonathon, and I am working toward my doctoral degree in Counseling Psychology at Chatham University. I have been working in the mental health field for three years, primarily in residential and intensive outpatient substance use treatment settings. Through these experiences, I have had the opportunity to work with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and at different stages of their lives.
I know that for most people, therapy is not their first choice when looking for help. I understand that change can be scary, and that everyone’s journey toward it looks different. I aim to honor your unique path by creating a space where you feel safe to show up authentically and as you are. It is a privilege to hear someone’s story and be a part of their life, and it is not one that I take lightly. Through connection and understanding, we will work collaboratively to identify what is going right in your life, where there may be opportunities for growth, and how you would like to get there.
I take a strengths-based, person-centered approach in my work with clients. I believe that therapy should be tailored to the individual rather than approached as a one-size-fits-all process. Depending on your needs and goals, I incorporate a variety of practical, evidence-informed techniques, including skills for managing difficult emotions, challenging unhelpful patterns of thinking, increasing mindfulness, and developing greater self-awareness. My goal is to help clients foster insight, build practical skills, and increase resilience while working toward meaningful change. I have worked with clients ranging from ages 17–65 and have experience supporting individuals with concerns including anxiety, mood disorders, substance use, and life transitions.
I am passionate about being a fellow traveler with clients on their path of self-discovery and being present as they grow into the person they know they can be. Outside of clinical practice, I am a lover of films, enjoy playing music and cooking, and spending time with friends.
