Miranda Makkar, MSW, LCSW

Hello and welcome!

My name is Miranda Makkar, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned my Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019. My professional journey began in a hospital-based setting, where I had the privilege of working with mothers and families navigating the challenges of having a child in the neonatal intensive care unit. I later expanded my experience in intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs, providing specialized mental health care for women and adolescents. These experiences have deeply shaped my holistic approach to therapy and my understanding of the mind-body connection in healing.

As part of my commitment to providing effective, evidence-based care, I have completed EMDRIA EMDR Part 1 and Part 2 training. This training has strengthened my ability to support clients in processing trauma and fostering resilience.

In our sessions, we will work collaboratively to explore the connections between mind, body, and spirit to help you achieve a greater sense of balance and well-being. My therapeutic approach is tailored to your individual needs and goals, drawing from a variety of modalities including person-centered, psychodynamic, and attachment-based therapies. I believe that by understanding our unconscious drives, early experiences, and emotional patterns, we can gain deeper self-awareness and create meaningful change.

I also incorporate Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and mindfulness techniques to help clients build practical coping skills and navigate life’s inevitable challenges.

I have experience supporting individuals with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, PTSD, life transitions, grief and loss, personality disorders, self-harm behaviors, self-esteem challenges, experiences of sexual abuse, and interpersonal relationship concerns. Above all, I strive to create a safe, compassionate, and validating therapeutic space—and I believe that a touch of humor can often be a helpful part of the healing process.

Outside of my professional life, I enjoy spending time with my spouse, family, and friends. I love traveling and exploring new cultures, and I find that movement and exercise are essential parts of my own well-being.
